History:
Archaeological findings have shown that the first sailing boats were used in the Ubaid Period (6000-4300 BC). In 3200 BC, Egyptians depicted sailing boats sailing on the Nile with wall paintings. The oldest sailing boat found completely preserved is the Uluburun shipwreck, which originated in the Levant and dates back to the 14th century BC. The material of the first sail is papyrus. After the Egyptians, the Polynesians used wind technology in their canoes. Sailing boats were later adopted by the Romans, Greeks, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, French and English. The first yacht races were organized in England in 1660, and the race was between the sailing boats owned by the Duke of York and Charles II at the time. The first sailing trophy was organized by the Prince of Wales in 1749. The US team finished first in the Hundred Guineas Cup races, which were first held in 1851. The name of this cup was later changed to America's Cup. In the 20th century, famous researchers and explorers (such as Slocum, Chichester, Moitessier and Tabarly) increased the popularity of sailing. Today, sailing is embraced by many people as both a hobby and a sport. Sailing took its place in the Olympics in 1896. Sailing races and international competitions are organized by the International Sailing Federation. The autonomous organization of sailing in Turkey is the Turkish Sailing Federation (TYF) and operates under the ISAF (International Sailing Association Federation) headquartered in England.

Sailing Races Sailing races are divided into three separate categories. 1 – Regatta Olympic races 2 – Ocean races 3 – Match (or head-to-head race) Competition rules are applied in the same way in all sailing boat categories. Men and women (except for special races) can participate in the competitions. The Olympic course of the competitions is in the shape of a triangle and the course is determined by buoys thrown into the sea. The direction of the competition is determined by the direction of the wind. The competition distance varies depending on the category of sailing boat being raced.
