Description:
Archery. A sport that aims to send an arrow to a target with a bow, with roots dating back to the hunting days of mankind.
History:
Archery was first included in the Olympic program in the 1904 Summer Olympics and has been in the programs continuously since 1972. In the early periods, France, Belgium and Great Britain had a say in this branch, while in later periods, the USA, Russia, Scandinavian countries, Italy and Korea followed these countries. The International Archery Federation (FITA - Fédération Internationale de Tir a l'Arc), founded in 1931 and currently having 140 member countries, is the greatest authority in archery.
Field Measurements:
Bows (commonly used types: Recurve bow, Compound bow) are made of fiber, wood, carbon or steel. The flexible material of the bow is made of solar rubber. This is called myrcin. The first known composite (multi-piece) solid bow was made by the Huns. Arrows can be made of fiber, carbon, aluminum wood or steel. Arrows can also be made by using several materials together as composites. There are 3 feathers behind the arrow that guide the arrow. Arrows should be between 60 and 71 cm long and weigh between 20 and 28 grams. The target is painted in five colors with circular lines. These colors are yellow, red, blue, black and white from the center outwards. Each color strip is also divided into two. Thus, the target is numbered from 10 to 1 from the inside to the outside. The 122 cm diameter target is used for 70, 60, 20 meter shots, and the 80 cm diameter target is used for 50 and 30 meter shots. In indoor competitions; the diameter of the target at a distance of 25 meters should be 60 cm, and the diameter of the target at a distance of 18 meters should be 40 cm. Each arrow gets points according to where it hits the target. If an arrow hits exactly on the line separating the rings, it gets the higher score. In international competitions, men shoot 144 arrows in two rounds. In each round, the archer shoots three dozen arrows at the target from 70, 50, and 30 meters. For women, it is 3 meters from 4 different distances. Archers shoot 6 shots each time before reading their numbers. In shots at targets smaller than 50 and 30 meters, the number is read every 3 shots. In a competition, each athlete shoots a total of 288 shots. The diameter of the target is determined by the arrow shooting distance. The winner of the competition is determined by the total score. It is a sport that develops arm and back muscles and eye coordination.
