Description:
Weightlifting is a sport in which an iron bar (bar) with weights on both sides is lifted into the air with snatch and clean and jerk movements and held above the head without bending the elbows. Weightlifting competitions consist of two movements as snatch and clean and jerk. In Snatch, the athlete lifts the bar in one go, holds it above the head without bending the elbows until the referee's signal. In Clean and Jerk, the athlete weighs the weight on his shoulders for a short time and then lifts it up. In weightlifting, in addition to technique, speed, power, coordination and mobility bring success.
History:
Weightlifting emerged as a sport in the late 19th century. From 1880 onwards, heavy athletics sports clubs began to be opened in many cities. Thereupon, the German Athletics Sports Federation (AASF) was founded in 1891. World championships have been held since 1891. At that time, with seven participants from six nations. Since 1896, weightlifting has been a part of the Olympic Games, albeit intermittently. In 1896 and 1904, single and double-arm clean and jerk movements were included in the program, but without any weight distribution. In 1920, the single-arm snatch movement was completed in a triple competition consisting of 5 different weight categories with two movements. In the 1924 Olympics, this was replaced with a quintet competition (competition) consisting of double-arm pressing, snatch, clean and jerk and single-arm snatch and jerk. From 1928 onwards, single-arm disciplines were abandoned and double-arm triple competitions consisting of snatch and jerk were held until 1972, but this continued for a while longer in national championships in quintet competitions in single-arm disciplines. In 2000, women's weightlifting was included in the Olympic program for the first time in Sydney and since 1987 in the women's category
